Post Social Biologists
New Scientist asks a question. Where do atheists come from? Now this question is not meant as an attack on atheists but more as an omission that has been recently recognized by social biologists. There has been many researches that have been done why are people religious? Most social biologists are atheist and therefore this has been a prominent consideration to them. For many years it has been considered that the more educated a person was the more they are likely to be atheist or agnostic, however, research does not back this assumption up. A study of Oxford undergraduates found that the majority were atheist or agnostic but another study found that there are more believers in God among graduates. Other studies also back up the suggestion that being atheist or not has little to do with education.
Now the reason for the question as to where do atheists come form, is because all studies seems to show that being atheist or agnostic is not a minority perception. It has also been noted that much research on believers in God has suggested that believing in a higher being is a natural development of being conscious of ones own own death. Yet, if this is so natural then how is that so many do not consider themselves believers and seem immune to any inclination to believe in a God.
The floor is open and I look forward to hearing more research that recognizes that believing or not believing cannot be so simply explained away and maybe a persons own reasoning and choices have a bearing upon the position a person takes.

Where do gays come from?
A species prime purpose is to maintain itself through replication.
But we are Human. Complicated and simple at the same time.
We are Pan Narans. The story telling ape. We need stories to justify our existence.
Some people need a big movie with a what happened next ending, others are content with a daily serial.
People are people, and things are the way they are because that's just the way they are.
Of course a cynic might say it's all down to biology and chemistry and evolution.
But a dreamer might wonder, what caused the Big Bang?
And wasn't it funny how the dinosaurs got wiped out just as the mammals were gearing up to take center stage.
I mean, 200,000,000 years they had and what did they achieve? I bet they couldn't even boil an egg never mind
fake a moon landing.

 :yinyang:

That is a theory as good as any other. Where do gay people come from according to social biologists? I agree we are more complex than just simple functions of development and evolution. Maybe we should ask where do social biologists come from

Is there really an answer for everything? Will we ever know if there really is a God, Gods, or nothing at all?

I have always thought that one of the beauties of mysticism is facing our toal ignorance. Even the great spiritual giants had to face their unknowing.

While in silent meditation sometimes I enjoy dthe contemplation of my own ignorance... of my unknowing.

One thing I have found, the more I learn, the more I become aware of what I do not know (and its immense  ). The Social biologists seem to me to be studying the religious as if they are not a norm to innate the human form. The truth to me appears that the human society identifies with agnostic, atheist, theists, and other faiths positions because we all seek answers to that which we do not know in life and come with up answers dependent upon our individual journeys. To say anyone identifies with one position just because of one reason seems to me to miss the richness of people.
